The doctoral internship in clinical psychology at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health trains future neuropsychologists to work in health-care settings that emphasize multi-disciplinary collaboration and treatment. The program, accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA)*, follows the scholar practitioner model of clinical training, incorporates 2,000 hours of supervised clinical experiences, meets licensing requirements for one year of doctoral supervised clinical training, and meets Houston Conference Guidelines specialization in neuropsychology. While ongoing research activities are not a primary focus of the clinical internship, opportunities for research may be available.
The neuropsychology program
The Neuropsychology Program at Lancaster General Health was established in 1987 to provide both inpatient and outpatient psychological and neuropsychological assessment and therapy services to patients with a variety of medical problems. The program has grown in the breadth of services provided, but continues to specialize in neuropsychological and behavioral medicine services.
The LG Health Physicians Neuropsychology practice is part of the Division of Neuroscience in the Department of Medicine. The practice is located at the Lancaster General Health Neuroscience Institute, which includes specialists in neurology, neuropsychology, and geriatric medicine, along with physical, occupational and speech therapy services. Interns also have training opportunities at Lancaster General Hospital and Lancaster Rehabilitation Hospital.
LG Health Physicians Neuropsychology consists of seven psychologists (two board certified), two postdoctoral neuropsychology fellows, two psychometricians, four doctoral interns, and support staff. Doctoral interns will participate in a 12-month training program each year.
Benefits and stipends
Interns receive a stipend of $33,092 for the training year. Trainee benefits include: a 192-hour paid time bank for sick leave, vacation, dissertation release time and holidays; Employee Assistance Program; wellness programs including free access to the employee fitness center; employee cafeteria discounts; O-T-C pharmacy discounts; flu vaccination; employee service center amenities.
Hospital policy dictates when and how these benefits can be utilized within the training year. Medical insurance is offered. Disability insurance is provided under the umbrella policy of the hospital.
