GME patient safety and quality

The call for physician leaders who are skilled in quality improvement and patient safety is a rising one across the nation. The Healthcare Leadership in Quality Residency Track is one of the few programs in the country to offer a distinct pathway for residents aspiring to be leaders in health care quality, patient safety, or informatics. During this two year longitudinal pathway, which is embedded within Penn Medicine’s residency programs, residents participate in various sessions that provide them with knowledge in health care quality, measurement, patient safety, informatics, and health care management. Armed with this knowledge, they then join leadership teams and work with them to design and implement an improvement initiative in our health care system as part of Penn Medicine’s Blueprint for Quality and Patient Safety.

UPHS GMEC subcommittee for quality and safety in the clinical learning environment

The UPHS GMEC Subcommittee for Quality and Safety in the Clinical Learning Environment aides GMEC to ensure that the ACGME institutional and program requirements related to quality and safety (QS) are being met and are aligned with Penn Medicine’s QS priorities. This Subcommittee also supports GME program directors and programs in meeting ACGME requirements related to QS. The Subcommittee is interprofessional and comprised of representatives from the medical and surgical faculty, housestaff, advanced practice, nursing, and the safety and quality staff.
