Radiology core facilities

The Department of Radiology, in collaboration with the Abramson Cancer Center and the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics, stewards a complete array of imaging cores, serving investigators across the University of Pennsylvania Campus.

Exceptional facilities

Our cores include facilities that support small animal imaging through human studies. Nearly every modality is represented, including PET, SPECT, MRI, CT, US,  and optical imaging. Several unique features of the cores include a robust radiopharmaceutical production facility, hyperpolarization systems to support animal and human subject research, and a 7 Tesla MRI facility for human studies.

Center for Advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy (CAMRIS)

The Center for Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy (CAMRIS) Committee works to establish policies and procedures for the research use of MR Scanners within the Department of Radiology. Its two-fold mission is to review proposed research protocols involving human or animal study.

CT Service Center

The CT Center is a Radiology research core at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine. Our mission is to provide imaging services, technical expertise, and regulatory guidance that empower investigators, clinicians, and collaborators to conduct high-quality, compliant, and innovative CT-based research.

CUBIC (HPC Cluster)

Need serious computing power for your research? CBICA's CUBIC cluster gives Penn researchers access to high-performance computing resources designed specifically for biomedical imaging and deep learning workflows. With 11,368 batch CPU cores, 128 GPUs, and dedicated interactive nodes for development and visualization, CUBIC is built to support research at every stage.

Kim Innovation Laboratory

KIMNOVATION is at the forefront of cerebrovascular research at Penn Medicine, investigating disorders of the brain's blood vessels — from aneurysms and strokes to congenital malformations. Established in 2022 through the support of the Kim Family, the lab brings together cutting-edge image-guided technology and translational research to advance the treatment of complex neurovascular conditions

Positron Emission Tomography Center (PET Center)

Established in 1975 to study human brain function, the Positron Emission Tomography (PET) Center at the University of Pennsylvania was one of the first PET research facilities in the country.

RADAR

RADAR will help you obtain imaging studies for your research project. As members of Penn Radiology and Corporate IS, we are qualified to review requests for medical imaging data for research use. We facilitate and automate the transfer of imaging studies to you.

RADCORE

The Radiology Clinical Research Core Facility (RADCORE) provides clinical trial support and research imaging services throughout Penn Medicine and at the Perelman School of Medicine.

Small Animal Imaging Facility (SAIF)

The Small Animal Imaging Facility (SAIF) is a core facility of the University of Pennsylvania and provides multi-modality radiological imaging and image analysis for cells, tissues, and small animals.
