Mission
The Department of Radiology's Quality and Safety Team aligns its mission and goals with the larger Penn Medicine Blueprint for Quality and Patient Safety.
Our ongoing improvement initiatives assist with promoting an error-free safe environment for our staff and the patients we serve. Many of these initiatives are based on quality indicators determined by our various regulatory agencies, such as the American College of Radiology (ACR), Pennsylvania Department of Health (PaDOH), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and The Joint Commission (TJC).
Each year the Penn Radiology Quality and Improvement team engages in dozens of projects across our six hospitals and affiliated private practices: Princeton Medical Center, Lancaster General Hospital, Chester County Hospital, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Pennsylvania Hospital, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and our Division of Community Radiology.

Meet the Quality and Safety Team
The Penn Radiology Enterprise Clinical Effectiveness team includes Quality Improvement and Safety staff and physician representatives across HUP, PPMC, PMC, LGH, CCH and the Division of Community Radiology (DCR). Within each organization, Quality and Safety officers work with internal Clinical Effectiveness Teams to identify areas for improvement that align with the Penn Medicine Blueprint for Quality and Patient Safety.
The teams also benefit from the knowledge and expertise of residents in our Healthcare Leadership in Quality (HLQ) . Each year up to four residents are selected for this interdepartmental track which exposes them to a variety of formal quality tools as they engage in a two-year-long project.
A message from leadership
How can we do better?” remains our quality mantra at Penn Radiology. Promoting a blame-free culture creates transparency, empowerment, and awareness leading to improvement opportunities to uphold our mission and vision of excellence. We hope you enjoy learning about the great work performed by our teams to create a safe, efficient and caring environment for our patients and staff!
