Focus
The Center for Practice Transformation (CPX) facilitates the development, testing, and implementation of initiatives to re-imagine care delivery to patients in radiology, improve patient outcomes, optimize patient and clinician experience, and decrease the cost of care. It applies innovation principles to identify opportunities to:
- Improve how patients and their families experience care in radiology.
- Support referring physicians in managing their patients.
- Enable radiologists to use cutting-edge technology to deliver care.
- Train the next generation of radiologists to deliver the highest quality care.
- Develop AI-powered solutions to optimize workflow, support education, and improve patient care.
CPX provides the perfect environment for individuals looking to usher radiology into the future, both within Penn Medicine and in the community at large.
In development
- Aperture – The future of radiology report analytics.
- Portal – automated tracking system to support education as well as radiology-pathology correlation.
- PL Submit - Integrated peer learning/quality interface to decrease the barrier for submitting learning opportunity cases and quality issues.
Deployed
- LiveAware - Engaging physicians, providers, and patients to improve rates of imaging-based screening and promote relevant biochemical testing (current use cases: hepatocellular carcinoma, lung cancer screening, primary hyperparathyroidism, primary hyperaldosteronism).
- PreAct – Collaboration with the Penn Center for Healthcare Transformation and Innovation to facilitate care of patients with newly diagnosed cancers and to support precision medicine delivery.
- ED-Radiology Dashboard – Increasing information transfer and communication between the Emergency Department and Radiology to improve patient disposition and triage in the ED.
- Penn Medicine Results Clinic – An enterprise-wide initiative to remove the cognitive burden of managing imaging follow-ups from Penn Medicine physicians and clinical providers, while still ensuring patients complete clinically indicated follow-up. Thanks to the support of Kevin Mahoney and the executive leadership of the health system, this has been scaled across the enterprise as the High-Risk Follow-Through initiative.
- Capricorn - Enabling radiology residents to monitor their report discrepancies and volumes interpreted.
- Penn Academic Radiology Learning Library (PeARLL) - A learning portfolio and ACGME milestones management tool for radiology residents.
- CENTAUR – Radiology learning quiz application utilizing rapid high-volume image viewing with gamification to improve resident learning
