RIDE is a resident-led group within Penn Radiology, working in collaboration with department leadership to support a welcoming and supportive training environment. Our mission is to strengthen the residency by fostering a sense of belonging for all trainees, while engaging in academic and community outreach efforts that address disparities in health and care delivery. All leadership, events, and initiatives are open to every Penn Radiology trainee.
Residency Outreach
RIDE residents play an active role in recruitment and interview season, helping to ensure a welcoming and representative process for all applicants. Activities include:
- Outreach and engagement prior to interview season
- Participation in informational sessions, tours, and interview day activities
- Coordinating second-look opportunities within the radiology department
- Supporting collaborative recruitment events with partner organizations and programs
Community Outreach
RIDE residents take leadership roles in the department’s efforts to improve the health of and provide mentorship to youth in the communities surrounding Penn Medicine. Residents contribute at all stages — from project creation and design through event execution and impact evaluation. Annual events include:
- Community health education and screening fairs
- STEM career mentoring workshops for high school and middle school students, including summer research interns and Science Olympiad participants
Mentorship
RIDE leads program-wide mentorship improvement initiatives for current residents, including a mentorship matchmaker program that connects residents with faculty of similar personal and professional interests early in their training.
