Radiology residency programs

Penn Radiology's residency programs offer one of the most comprehensive training environments in the country — combining the breadth of a major academic medical center with a close-knit, mentorship-driven culture. Rooted in the histories of America's first medical school (Perelman School of Medicine) and first hospital (Pennsylvania Hospital), our program prepares residents not just to practice radiology, but to define it.

Program aims

Our residency program aims are based on Penn Medicine’s mission, the needs of the community we serve, and the distinctive capabilities our trainees seek when choosing Penn Radiology for their residency. We aim to...

  • Train residents who are AI-fluent, AI-critical, and AI-independent, embracing generative AI’s potential in learning, teaching, and evaluation while rigorously evaluating its use.
  • Train residents who will define tomorrow’s practice of radiology and further the discipline of Radiology through scholarly pursuits that are professional and demonstrate superb communication skills, reflective of their abilities, and can successfully navigate through any healthcare system for the betterment of patient care.
  • Train the future leaders of academic radiology across multiple domains, including research, education, innovation, business, health equity, quality and patient safety, informatics, and advocacy.
  • Train the future leaders of private radiology across multiple domains, including innovation, business, health equity, quality and patient safety, informatics, and advocacy.
Penn Radiology is committed to providing fair, high-quality care and experiences for our patients and staff by understanding and addressing differences in experience, safety, and outcomes.
