Neurohospitalist Medicine Fellowship Program

The Penn Neurohospitalist Fellowship program trains future leaders in academic inpatient neurology. The program immerses trainees in a diverse clinical, research, and educational environment to launch the next phase of their career. Aims include honing diagnostic reasoning related to acute diseases affecting both the peripheral and central nervous system, developing managerial skills with interdisciplinary teams, refining teaching skills, and exploring quality improvement in the inpatient service line. Fellows engage in intensive mentorship with faculty within the Neurohospitalist Division and Neurology Department more broadly for feedback on clinical work, academic interests, and career goals.

Curriculum

The curriculum is tailored to each fellow's interests with clinical and research electives, with opportunities including epilepsy, neuromuscular medicine, neuroimmunology, palliative care, or neurointerventional radiology. Universally, the year includes escalating responsibilities beginning with joining neurohospitalist attendings on service and graduating to attending independently by the end of the year. Service time is primarily on the HUP Ward and Neurology Consult services with supplemental educational experiences with neurovascular and neurocritical care services at HUP, as well as neurohospitalist services at additional sites within the health system potentially including, Penn Presbyterian Hospital, Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes, and/or Chester County Hospital.

The year will be broken up into one and two week blocks and include roughly:

• 4 months primary neurology inpatient service, including stroke and neurointensive care
• 5 months consultative neurology including stroke
• 2 months of elective
• 1 month of vacation

Didactics

Format will vary and include one-on-one sessions with Neurohospitalist attendings, interdisciplinary fellow education lunch lectures, division meetings, national conferences.

As a Neurohospitalist Society accredited fellowship, we participate in the Unified Offer Timeline, which standardizes fellowship position offer extension and candidate offer acceptance dates across participating neurohospitalist fellowship programs. Requirement for Applicants

• Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited Neurology residency prior to start of fellowship
• Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Pennsylvania, including successful completion of USMLE Step 3 (or COMLEX Level 3)
• Candidates must be Board eligible and have a license to practice in the states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey by the fellowship start date.
