Age Span Fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis and Related Neuroinflammatory Disorders

Overview

The Age Span Fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis and Related Neuroinflammatory Disorders offers Clinical and Clinical and Research tracks for adult neurology and pediatric neurology trainees. The mission of this program is to provide integrated, longitudinal care from childhood to adulthood and accepts BOTH pediatric and adult neurology applicants.

Training occurs with our distinguished faculty and supported by advanced practice providers, pharmacists, research coordinators, and social worker. The Multiple Sclerosis and Related Disorders Clinic at Penn is recognized as a National MS Comprehensive Care Center of Excellence, integrating ancillary services to provide comprehensive care and availability of basic science, translational, and clinical research studies. 

The Age Span Program seamlessly integrates education, patient care, and research with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). 

There are several opportunities to learn other neuroinflammatory conditions through the NMO and MOG-AD Disease Program, Undiagnosed White Matter Disorders Adult Neurogenetics Clinic, Neurosarcoidosis Clinic, and the Age-Span Women’s MS Program to develop well-rounded neuroinflammatory experts.

Fellowship curriculum

Clinical Track: 1-year training in diagnosis and management of Multiple Sclerosis and related disorders including NMOSD, MOGAD, granulomatous disease, and neurological manifestations of systemic disease. By the end of training fellows are expected to demonstrate comfort in management of these disorders and complete a scholarly project in their area of interest.

Research and Clinical Track: This is a combined research and clinical training fellowship track that will be tailored to the individual fellow’s training and career goals.

Didactics

• Fellows Bootcamp Lecture Series: Introduction to MS and related neuroinflammatory disorders evaluation and management.
• Monthly journal club addressing both clinical and research topics.
• Monthly Invited Speaker Seminar: Highlights national and international leaders, covering research (basic and clinical) and clinical care. 
• Bi-monthly case conferences in collaboration with CHOP

Application process 

Requirement for applicants

• Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited Neurology residency (or Canadian equivalent) prior to start of fellowship
• Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Pennsylvania, including successful completion of USMLE Step 3 (or COMLEX Level 3)
