Jared Feinman, MD, FASE
Dr. Feinman grew up in Long Island, NY before attending college and medical school at Harvard University. He completed his anesthesia residency at the University of Pennsylvania followed by cardiac anesthesia fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, and has been an attending in the cardiac anesthesia division at Penn since 2014. He served as the long time Program Director for the cardiac anesthesia fellowship at Penn before transitioning to the Vice Chair of Education role in 2024. Dr. Feinman lectures nationally and publishes in the areas of cardiac anesthesia and transesophageal echocardiography. He is dedicated to continually improving the educational offerings for both trainees and faculty, and strives to ensure that the anesthesia training programs at Penn build on their long tradition of producing exemplary clinicians and future leaders in our field.
Jesse Kiefer MD MSEd
Dr. Kiefer is from northeastern Pennsylvania and now happily calls the Philadelphia area home. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Scranton and earned his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago – Stritch School of Medicine. He completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center, where he served as chief resident, and then completed his critical care medicine fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Kiefer joined the Penn faculty as a critical care anesthesiologist in 2017 and splits his clinical time between the operating rooms (with a focus on general, thoracic, and transplant anesthesiology) and the heart and vascular intensive care unit. Having experienced considerable curricular and evaluative change throughout his residency, Dr. Kiefer developed a passion for graduate medical education, ultimately completing his MSEd through the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education's MedED program in 2020. His academic, administrative, and educational interests overlap with a focus on the residency training experience and the development of physician professional identity. Dr. Kiefer has been the Core Program Director since 2022 (before which he served as the Associate Program Director for two years) and is an American Board of Anesthesiology oral board examiner.
Mission
We train the next generation of academic anesthesiologists who combine outstanding clinical skills with compassion, curiosity, and a drive to advance our field. Our program gives residents the chance to gain in-depth experience across all facets of anesthesiology, from perioperative medicine to critical care and pain management, and beyond. We achieve this through close mentorship, hands-on learning, opportunities in research and teaching, and graduated autonomy. We prepare our graduates not only to deliver excellent patient care but also to lead as educators, innovators, and academic physicians.
